Homeless Program



Who is Homeless? Any individual or family who are lacking economic self-sufficiency and are without a regular night time residence. this also includes persons who are livung in a substandard residence possibly without water, electricity or heat. An individual or family whose residence is destroyed due to fire, flood, tornado, or any natural disaster is also considered homeless.




Homelessness is not only a lack of shelter, but involves a variety of underlying unmet needs(physical, economic, social, etc.)


A typical homeless person encountered in our area is a single parent with small children. Major concers for homeless persons are:
(1) Affordable housing
(2) Employment
(3) Affordable child care
(4) Low cost transportation services
(5) Life skills training(budgeting, household management, parenting skills, job seeking and job keeping skills, basic nutrition, etc).



SWAN homeless services include:
  • Temporary shelter
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Medical assistance
  • Clothing give away
  • Individual and group counseling


    SWAN also provides preventative services to persons who are at risk of becoming homeless.
